The mostly German immigrants who had settled in the area had been meeting as a congregation since 1873 at another location (GC2C3FC) and decided to build this church on donated land around 1908.
The services at that time were still conducted in the original German of the Lutheran church, therefore the name on the front of the building. Kirche is German for church. By 1915 occasional services were conducted in English but did not convert over completely until 1956.
The stone for the foundation was quarried locally. The front entryway was added to the church in 1950 to provide additional access to the basement of the church. If you happen to be here at 8:30 am on any Sunday join us for a service and see the beautiful interior of the church.
In 1913 a parsonage was built to the west of the church to house the pastor and his family. This was sold in 1999 as the congregation partnered with another congregation to share our pastor.
If you look at the tombstones in our cemetery you will see many of the names of the families that formed the early congregation; Miller, Maedke, Neinas, Guth, Wiese and Matzke. Please be respectful of the setting.
The cache is not located on or near any gravesites or the actual church building. If mourners are present please return at another time to search for and sign the log.
