Long Pond Cove Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a typical, small plastic lock box which is located in NJ State Park Land bordering Greenwood Lake.  The cache is located near a large rock outcropping that both overlooks and drops down to the lake.  Its a nice place for a picnic or just sitting and taking in the beautiful view looking up Greenwood Lake.

I replaced my original geocache that had been stolen by Muggles, and placed this new second cache a small distance from Big Rock Cove, where my original cache was located. This was done to avoid looters who might come back to see if I put another one back in the original spot. The coordinates have been changed to the location of the second cache. Anyway, you can start from Paul's Place (the popular hotdog/fastfood restaurant/cafe located on Greenwood Lake Turnpike) or the Fire Station and enter the woods across Greenwood Lake Turnpike. There are several places one can enter the woods, one of these is described as follows. Starting from Paul's Place at N 41o 08.592' W 74o 20.746' crossing Greenwood Lake Turnpike to Olcott Rd (don't go down Olcott Rd it is a Private Rd. !) there is a bank of mailboxes to the right when you are facing north. At the mailboxes is an ATV trail entering the woods which winds around a bit but shortly turns generally north. Follow the ATV trails generally north and you'll be ok. I have uploaded a map of the main ATV trails that can be used to access the geocaches I mapped using my GPS. Use this map to help you find your way through the woods. Let your GPS lead you, the geocache is not a hard find. Just a little further north from the geocache is Big Rock Cove. I encourage you to go the very short extra distance to Big Rock. The view up Greenwood Lake is beautiful. The rock itself is not a bad place to sit with a backpack picnic. Do be careful of broken glass (courtesy drinking teens and fishermen). The location of Big Rock is: N 41o 08.854’ W 74o 20.479’ Historically Greenwood Lake was called Long Pond, hence the name of the geocache. I placed in a new load of trinkets in the second geocache.
