This geocache is located at beautiful Father and Son Lake. The lake is located in the subalpine and the access trail to it is relatively short (25-45 minutes). It is uphill most of the way to the lake and the trail is a little rough in places. That said I placed the cache with my 4 year old son who made the hike in about 40 minutes. There is a trail that goes around the lake but some of the bridges are out and you will have to go off trail to get around.
To get to the cache from Port Alberni travel toward Bamfield for approximately 10km to Museum Mainline. Turn left onto Museum Mainline and drive for 3.7km to Thistle Mine Road (TMR). Turn left onto TMR and drive 9.2 km to the trailhead. There are many side roads along the way. The road is rough for the last 800 m before the trailhead and a high clearance vehicle is recommended.
The roads can have loaded logging trucks during the week so drive cautiously and with your headlights on at all times.
