This cache is on private property with permission. Please do not block the driveway. Parking is available in the lot when the gates are open during the winery’s hours of operation. The geocache can still be accessed after hours.
At this cache you will find yourself on the Golden Mile Bench. The Golden Mile is a grape growing region that is on the west side of the South Okanagan Valley. This area is well known as one of the best grape growing regions in the Okanagan. The mile is a series of alluvial fans created by mudslides over thousands of years. The exact start and finish of the Golden Mile is disputed but is best defined as the bench that stretches from just south of Road 13 to around the old Fairview town site.
The vineyard you are standing next to is primarily Pinot Noir and some Syrah. There is no need to walk between the rows to reach the cache. Please don't pick the grapes or damage the vines. Looking up at the winery you will feast your eyes on architecture spanning centuries. Perched at the top of the vineyard are two buildings, a three turret castle and a new modern glass addition. They are both very striking buildings with the desert scrub hillside of Grey Sage and Antelope Brush as the back drop.
Looking out over the valley are some of the best views in the area. To the south you can see Osoyoos Lake and to the east the Black Sage Bench, another well know grape growing region in the valley.
Here at their final resting place you will find two well-known and well used antique tractors. The first is a 1948 International Harvester Farmall H and the second is a 1938 Cockshutt 18 HP Orchard Model 70. Enjoy the display but please do not climb on the tractors.
