Geocache Description:

In October of 1824, Providence's black Hardscrabble neighborhood was the site of a race riot. Approximately 20 black homes were destroyed and only one person was convicted of rioting. This wouldn't be the last race riot in Providence: the Snow Town neighborhood would face riots in 1831, leading to a charter for a city government containing strong police powers.

When you get to the memorial marker, please take a moment to reflect on how far our society has come since those days.
