Geocache Description:

Three Billy Goats Gruff Image

Once upon a time...there were three Billy-goats who wanted to cross a bridge...

Most children are familiar with the tale of the three Billy-goat brothers who were all named “Gruff.” The story tells how they tricked the great ugly Troll into letting each of them cross the bridge to enjoy the tasty green grass that was waiting on the other side. But what happened after the biggest Billy-goat kicked the troll off of the bridge? Well, we may never know for sure…but rumor has it that the Troll went for a swim in the waters below and was never heard from again…

Be careful not to find yourself in the same situation as the Troll while discovering the hidden location of this cache. Although rare, muggles may be heard by carefully listening for the “TRIP, TRAP! TRIP, TRAP! TRIP, TRAP!” on the bridge.

The cache is small and you’ll want to bring your own pen. Not much will fit inside, but for those who love a good scientific discovery…enclosed you will find a truly unique gemstone! This gem was once part of a tree. Millions of years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Southwest, the forest was buried under a sea of mud, sand, and volcanic ash. Silicate replaced the wood fibers and pressure formed the rock. Then with a bit of fairy tale magic, coloring of the stone appeared as a result of various elements present in the original wood. Find the cache and you’ll find yourself holding a piece of rainbow petrified wood that is over 1 million years old!
