SCCB Grant Park #1 Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

SCCB: This cache was a part of a letterbox challenge set up in 2012. Due to staff changes at the conservation board the boxes were left out after the challenge. So long in fact that it took until 2017 for them to be collected. SCCB is so glad that many could enjoy them in the 5 years they were out and we are working on getting new hides out in all the county conservation board areas including a new one in this area by Fall 2017!

Geocache Description:

The Sac County Conservation Board (SCCB) is hosting a letterbox challenge event GC code GC3PRQ0 on August 4th 2012. This is 1 of 10 caches placed for this event. Find this one and the others to claim a NICE prize at their event. You will have approximately 2 weeks to claim all 10 before the event. The caches will still be available after event is over. Get outside and see what the SCCB has to offer.

This beautiful wooded 98 acre park is located 1 1/2 miles north of Auburn along the North Raccoon River. Camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, canoeing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing are all popular activities.
Grant Park has three separate camping areas. Area 1 has 25 camping sites with full hookup– sewer, water and electric (30 and 50 amp). Areas 2 and 3 are available for primitive camping. A restroom/shower is located in Area 1 as well as a playground, horseshoe pits and picnic areas. Camping facilities are open April 1 through mid-October, weather permitting.

Grant Park has an enclosed shelterhouse located near the modern camping area. It is available for reservation from April 1 through mid-October or on a first-come, first-serve basis. The shelterhouse has indoor bathrooms, a fireplace, and outdoor grills and seats approximately 100 people.

The North Raccoon River winds along the eastern boundary of the park and provides excellent opportunities for fishing and viewing wildlife. A lowhead dam provides chances for walleye, channel catfish and carp. Bowhunting is allowed in Grant Park during the appropriate seasons and hunting with a firearm is only allowed after the camping area has been closed for the season (mid-October to April 1). Please check with the SCCB for exact dates.
