Paramonas beach located at the south west corner of the Corfu.

Agios Mattheos is an important village with a population of 2000, built on the lower slopes of the mountain that is called Pantocrator. It is a village with great personality, you ca find traditional houses as well fine traditional cafes line the main street and it has a philharmonic orchestra, founded in 1965. A huge, dense forest of oaks, fruit-bearing trees and wild olives encircles the village, and during the 19th century, fugitives from the law would hide out amongst the myrtles and lentisk shrubs. Near the summit stands the Monastery of Pantokrator (the Almighty), built at the start of the4th century AD.Its remarkable all-night festival takes place on August 5th, and is wellworth seeing. Nearby is the entrance to a cave which is said to lead down to the sea.The historical value of the place is undisputed, for here traces of Mesolithic Man havebeen found. From the village of Agios Mattheos, a road leads down to Paramonas, an excellent sandy beach with some small islets off-shore and two or three tavernas beside the waves. Also there are rooms to let there and a small hotel(Paramonas Hotel). To the south are the clean and peaceful little beaches of Prasoudi, Kavouli, and Skidi, worth keeping in mind if you seek solitude during the peak season.

  • Beach location: From the main Lefkimmi - Corfu road, in the vicinity of Moraitika, turn onto the Aghios Matheos road. You will eventually come to an overhead gantry, signposting various beach destinations. You keep straight on here. Pass the turnings for Kanouli and Prasoudi and you will shortly see official signs for Paramonas (and unofficial ones for the Paramonas Hotel). You turn left at these to the beach.
  • Disabled access: Yes, Paramonas beach is vamped. Be aware that the sand is quite soft, however.
  • Car parking: Park on the roadside or utilise one of the spaces at the taverns.
  • Food outlets/restaurants: Two or three tavernas and a mini-market.
  • Sand/pebbles/shingle: Mainly golden sand but with some pebbles in places.
  • Sunbeds/umbrellas: Yes.

  • Safe for children: Although there are some pebbles on the beach, beyond the waterline is sandy. It's a comparatively safe beach for younger swimmers.
  • Any other facilities: Rooms to let nearby and a mini-market. If you believe the fluorescent signs, there's even a cigarette kiosk in the middle of the olive grove somewhere!
