Sea Turtle 101 - Meet, Greet, Eat & Learn Event Cache

Join us for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday September 22nd from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. for food, friends and a fun learning session at The Conch Cafe in Garden City.

We'll have a guest speaker from S.C.U.T.E. (South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts) for the educational portion. You'll learn all about Sea Turtles in South Carolina, how you can keep the beaches safe for them, and how to avoid impacting their nesting/hatching environment while you're out geocaching.

May through October is Sea Turtle nesting and hatching time along The Grand Strand. There have been over 150 turtle nests reported within Horry & Georgetown county beaches this year alone. Volunteer efforts from S.C.U.T.E. ensure the preservation of a quality nesting habitat for sea turtles in our area. Working with SCDNR, S.C.U.T.E. protects, relocates and documents turtle nests on our area beaches.

We'll have a few door prizes to give away and an event-only special edition sea turtle geocoin available for purchase. I'm only making a few coins, 30 for the event to be exact. So first come first serve on those.

This event is open to all. Food/beverage purchase is not required to attend. Please include the number of people in your party with your "will attend" log. I'll need to provide the location with an accurate number of people we'll have in our group. This promises to be a fun and informative session for cachers of all ages. So be sure to make plans to attend!

Friday September 21 @ Huntington Beach State Park, 6 p.m.
Saturday September 22 @ Myrtle Beach State Park, 7 a.m.
Sunday September 23 in Garden City, 6 p.m.
