Geocache Description:

This is a well camouflaged orange matchstick container in Elliot Hoyt Park in Shell Rock, Iowa.

I decided that Shell Rock needed more geocaches, so I found this park close to the river and identified a hiding place. This cache is uniquely designed for the location, so be prepared to use your powers of observation to find this one. Permission to place the cache was obtained from the Public Works Director of Shell Rock. It is always a good idea to bring your own writing utensil.

Not far away from the cache is a marker for Lou Henry Hoover, the wife of President Herbert Hoover. She lived in Shell Rock as a young girl for a few years. Eventually her family moved out to California where she met her future husband (also an Iowa native) as a student at Stanford University. Lou H Hoover was known as an outdoor enthusiast, who developed a love of the outdoors from her father, who was a miner. She was the only female geologist in her class, where she met Herbert Hoover who was studying engineering.
