Geocache Description:

Take me Down the River

This cache was placed with permission of the owner.
It is available 24/7.
At times it will be very busy here, please be respectful of the customers.

A favorite starting point for us and many others, if you enjoy floating a canoe gently down a peaceful river. An easy place to be that’s hard to leave. From Prairie Du Sac to the Mississippi the last 92 miles of the lower Wisconsin River are more like a long lake than a river. Usually shallow at 3-5 feet and a current under 5 mph you’ll encounter very few motor boats. However there are many sand bars and islands along the way, increasing farther down river, with no dams to portage.

In 1989 the area was designated the Wisconsin State Waterway to protect the views and wildlife along the river. The river is bordered by private and state lands – bluffs, farm land and woodlands with very few buildings to see. Camping is free on the islands and sandbars, commercial campgrounds and outfitters are available along it’s path.

Special Thanks to the GreenFamily for making room for this cache!
