Geocache Description:

A library shelf installed into the side of a warehouse in the cache desert of west Oakland. Bring a book, take a book.

My friend Ray, who is 88, has thirty thousand books in his warehouse. He used to sell them on Saturdays out of his yard, but the City of Oakland cracked down on him, because apparently prosecuting a U.S. Army veteran senior citizen for supplementing his income by selling books for 50 cents to kids in the ghetto is an appropriate use of taxpayer money in a cash-strapped disaster zone with a 40% dropout rate.

So every week, he puts a few books on a shelf outside his warehouse. It's a sort of public street library, where anyone can take a book, or leave a book if they'd like. I placed this geocache here to let more people know about the street library. If you like, bring an old book to put on the shelf. Take a book with you when you leave.

If you're the last to know when it rains, bring a wire hook or a cane to fetch it down. Although this is a quiet, industrial block, I would not recommend visiting this geocache at night.
