What: Family Day of Geocaching & Scavenger Hunt
Where: Decatur YMCA - North side pavillion
When: September 29, 2012
Sign up is from 8 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
9:00 a.m. - 12 noon Event takes place
12 Noon - 1 p.m. Pizza party for lunch
1 p.m. - 1:30 Announcement of winners handing out trophies for 1s, 2nd & 3rd place.

Part One
As each team / family arrives, you will given a packet that will have the GPS locations along with a small map of the Decatur area marked off with 30 temporary caches that I have hidden around the decatur area. The caches will consist of 15 small boxes and 15 film canisters. Each cache, depending on the difficulty to find will be given a point value...Inside each cache is a log with a perticular code number and letter on it. As you find the caches, you must write on your score sheet, the number that corresponds with the cache. Score cards will be provided.
Part Two
The Scavenger Hunt. Included in your packet are four sheets with 100 various scavenger hunt items to be found. Each item depending on the difficulty to retrieve it will also be given a point value. As you find your geocaches... your team members should be looking over their list of scavenger hunt items to see what they may be able to pick up along the way. All teams must bring a small box or bag to put all the Scavenger Hunt items in to be verified by the judges. Also... please bring a camera or camera phone... some times on the list may rewuire proof by photo.
You do not need to, and probably will not get all 30 caches and 100 scavenger hunt items... so there is a small chance of a tie.... But, if in fact a tie should take place... the two teams will chose one player each and those two will go toe to toe in a best out of 5 Paper-Rock-Scissors!
All teams must be back at 12 noon - Any team arriving late will deducted 5 points per minute they are late.
The word team, means one group of people in one car. For those people coming alone as one... you may chose to participate on your own.. or join another group in their car. The judges will be helping form teams as people arrive.
The event is free for everyone to attend but, to help offset the cost of Pizza and the Trophies a Donations Jar will be available at the event and are appreciated.
Please post a "Will Attend" so I know how many registration packets to put togehter as well as how much pizza to order.
