Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore". Is there a more famous line in American poetry?
It was on or near this spot that the Brennen farmhouse stood, where Edgar Allan Poe lived in 1844 with his young wife Virginia and her mother. Here too, it was that Poe wrote his most famous work, The Raven. The poem was such a sensation, that for the only time in his life, Poe seemed to escape the financial woes that had followed him throughout his career. He gave readings of his works to packed houses, but was always beseiged with requests to recite The Raven. There is a plaque at the location commemorating Poe's life and his great work.
