Geocache Description:

A walk of approximately 3.5kms (just over 2 miles) starting in Hollow Lane on the Shepherd’s Trail by Chillerton main street from where it travels South up to Berry Hill, the highest point of the walk being at 130 metres. The views are magnificent and cover well over half of the Island, from St Catherine’s Oratory (also known as the Pepperpot) and Chale Bay in the South-West, to the mainland across the Solent, beyond Cowes in the North.

The Ridge #2

The nearby Chillerton Down is the site of an unfinished Iron Age promontory fort and a 229-metre (751 ft) antenna for the Isle of Wight radio station. The antenna can be seen from most parts of the Island. On days with an E to SE wind, paragliders are seen thermalling Chillerton Down, flying along the hill and, with good conditions, reaching the top of the mast.

From Berry Hill, the circuit goes along the public bridleway G15 then down, with a short eastwards walk on a quiet country lane before joining the Shepherd’s trail again by Ramsdown Farm, going back up to the ridge and more beautiful views towards the North-East of the Island. Enjoy the walk along the ridge along farmland.

There are seven independent caches along the walk, plus one Bonus Cache. You need to collect a clue in each cache along the way to get the Bonus one.

There is usually space to park along the Chillerton main street.

Don’t forget to collect the clue for the bonus cache. You might want to take a pen.

Please post photos of the views...not the containers or where they are hidden - thank you!
