Geocache Description:

Welcome to Camp Agawam!

This cache is located just off a trail at Camp Agawam, Moraine Trails Council. Most of the walking is on gravel road, open field or nature trail. The terrain is basically level except between the trailhead and the cache #2.   (The council has given permission for this cache.)

Camp Agawam is located near Moraine State Park and McConnell's Mill State Park. It is bordered by Slippery Rock Creek. The Camp is owned and run by Moraine Trails Council, BSA (www.morainetrails.org). It has recently be completely refitted to serve as a Cub Scout camp and training center. (The Cub Scout part of the construction work will become obvious as you follow the road and trail to or from the cache.)

On Route 422 just West of the intersection with Interstate 79 and a little further west of Slippery Rock Creek, you will see a sign for Camp Agawam on Young Road. Follow Young Road north and take a right on Frew Mill Road to the camp.

This series was originally placed for a Webelos den that was coming to camp hike and geocache.  We only had the one multicache at the time (Agawam Adventure Redux) so it seemed like a good idea to make their visit more exciting.

The cleanest route to this series of caches is to follow the GPS to the trailhead from the parking lot.   Stick to the trail and you can’t go wrong.   From parking lot to parking lot is about 1-1/2 miles.   Once you complete the Loop Trail, just follow the camp road around the parade field and back to the parking lot.  You can reduce the terrain rating to 2 if you follow the camp road the long way around to Caches 2-6.  The distance is still about 1-1/2 miles but you can avoid two significant dips in the trail.

All the containers in this series are black plastic containers about the size of a small peanut butter jar.  I didn’t include any swag, just a log so far and you will need to bring a writing implement.

When looking for this cache, remember that "a Scout is courteous". Please park in the parking lot (N 40 59.508, W 80 11.225) and walk to the cache. Before you start your walk, please check in at the Ranger's house just east of the parking lot, or on weekends and during the camping season, please check in at the administration cabin just above the parking lot, next to the pool.  If  nobody is home when you knock, please watch for the Ranger or Campmaster during your walk and introduce yourself. Please be courteous to groups that may be camping at one or more of the cabins and tent sites. There is no need to cross a campsite to find the cache.
