New Hartford-The City of Gardens Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

jjh1660: I thought I archived this last year, sorry. Per previous logs the container has been gone for some time. I apologize for the delay. I’m hoping, now that I no longer live in Iowa, others will replace some of these caches. Thanks to everyone who helped and found them in the past. Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

There are new gardens in the little town of New Hartford, but no caches.   So, I decided to "plant" some here after the Mayor, John M. Anderson, and the City Clerk, Shawna Hagen, gave me permission.

The town suffered a major flood after the F5 tornado in 2008. The 'New Hartford FEMA Lot Restoration' grew out of that disasterous time. In 2012, the Veterans Memorial, Four-Seasons Perennial Garden, Town Square Gazebo, and the Free Fruit Tree Orchard were dedicated as the first of many more gardens to come. Plans are in the works for a handicap accessible vegitable garden (which was planted this year), a possible farmer's market, native Prairie "Welcome to New Hartford" signage on the west end of town, a bike/walking path around town that would encompass outdoor structures with green roofs, and outdoor educational classrooms. Additional ideas for the town include: new signs on the North and East entrances to town, a toddler playground on the far SW end of town, more orchards and community vegitable gardens.

This small town of 600 ciitzens and no money to start with, commited themsleves to raising money and restoring their town through volunteer work.

This is a peanut butter jar covered in geo-flage; hopefully, to prevent being muggled.  Please cover it and keep it hidden.  This is on Main Street and Muggles are everywhere, so use stealth!  You can park on the side street.  This is family friendly and depending on the ground moisture/snow might be wheel chair accessible.  The winter rating will depend on the snow cover

This is the first of 7 caches I'm planting in or near town.  Please, if you've found a FTF, give someone else a chance to be a FTF.

This cache contains a little green for the FTF and a TB that you can move along.  Have fun and "play nice"
