How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is a multi-stage cache. You will also have to do some “homework” (either watching the movie or searching for trivia facts online) about the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” to find some of the missing coordinates for the cache. Locale clues are not within walking distance of each other or of the cache. Congratulations on SycoScouter on the FTF!
*** WE HAVE ADJUSTED THE COORDINATES OF THE FINAL CACHE!!!*** Clue #1 (Locale): Begin your adventure by going to N 41 59.244 W 88 28.479. Find the place at this location that might belong to Sloane's grandmother. (Yeah, we know that the dates don't match up with the movie, and it was supposedly her MATERNAL grandmother, but we've taken a little creative liberty here.) What is the third number in the year of her demise? Take this number and multiply by 9. Now subtract 31. This number equals “A” in our puzzle. So, A = _____
Clue #2 (Trivia): According to Dean of Students, Ed Rooney, how many days has Ferris been absent so far this semester? Subtract 3 from this number. The resulting number equals “B” in our puzzle. So, B = _____
Clue #3 (Trivia): What is the number on the Red Wings jersey that Cameron wears in most of the movie? Multiply this number by 8. Now divide by 36. This number equals “C” in our puzzle. So, C = _____
Clue #4 (Locale): Continue your caching adventure by going to N 41 56.385 W 88 28.793. This establishment is one for which the movie’s unseen character “Abe Froman” would likely be a vendor. What are the last 3 digits of the “fire number” or address for this building? Add these three numbers together and subtract 9. This number equals “D” in our puzzle. So, D = _____
Clue #5 (Trivia): What grade (number) was Sloane in? Add 1 to this number. Now divide by 2. Now subtract 6 from this number. This number equals “E” in our puzzle. So, E = _____
Clue #6 (Trivia): How many miles were on Cameron’s Dad’s car before the trip to the city (not including tenths of miles)? Divide this number by 63. This number equals “F” in our puzzle. So, F = _____
Clue #7 (Locale): Continue your caching adventure by going to N 41 57.583 W 88 26.908. Although it's not the actual location visited in the movie, Ferris, Cameron and Sloane spend part of their day off watching the activity that happens at this location. How many facilities are there for this activity at this location? Add 1 to this number. This number equals “G” in our puzzle. So, G = _____
Clue #8 (Trivia): According to Simone, who heard it from her best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend who heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at ________ the night before his day off? Take the number part of this location and add the digits together. Now subtract 4. This equals “H” in our puzzle. So, H = _____
Clue #9 (Trivia): Ferris states that “anything is peaceful from _____ feet.” Take the number of feet and multiply by 4. Divide the result by 2706. Now subtract 2. This number equals “I” in our puzzle. So, I = _____
Clue #10 (Trivia): How many times does the song “Danke Schoen” come up in the movie? Multiply this number by 4 and subtract 15. This number equals “J” in our puzzle. So, J = _____ (This answer seems to be open to interpretation since different cachers have come up with different numbers on this one. The number that WE used for the purposes of this calculation is the one cited on IMDB.com.)
Just to check your answers, A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H+I+J should equal 21. If they do not, one of your answers is incorrect and you will not be lead to the correct coordinates for the cache. Go back and check your answers and your math. (You would’ve gotten the right answer if you hadn’t ditched all of those days during high school!)
Now, plug in the puzzle numbers to form the coordinates for the Cache. The cache coordinates are: N 41 AB.CDE W88 FG.HIJ
The final cache location goes along with our theme, and was one of the many places in the city where Ferris’ plight was advertised.
GOOD LUCK and THANK YOU for hunting our cache!
You're still here? It's over. Go home. Go.
