How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
The cache is not located at the tree. Please admire the tree with your eyes and do not pick at it. Also, this is a small cemetery. If anyone is there please come back a different time. Thanks.
We had to archive Beagle-noses last cache and she wanted a new one so this is it. She camoed a peanut butter jar and stuffed it full of the things she likes. We hope you enjoy it.
The tree is located just before the entrance to Lakeside Cemetery. I remeasured the tree and it fits between the 3rd and 4th largest trees in Wisconsin. The largest are all cottonwoods. The Wisconsin DNR keeps a list of the largest trees of each species, called "Wisconsin Champion Trees". Criteria for entry is based on a formula that includes circumference, height and crown spread. Unfortunately the web site to view the stats on all the trees is down right now.
This cemetery is owned by the Town of Stockbridge. Permission to place this cache was given by Ken Schaefer, Town Chairman.
This tree is also a Waymark in case you want to log that too.
