Geocache Description:

This is one of five caches placed by Team Schnauzer as a tribute to the nations of Scandinavia. Most of these should be pretty simple hides, though some will be more difficult than others. We hope you enjoy the tribute and enjoy your time caching on the backroads of Story County!

Many geographers don't even consider Iceland to be part of Scandinavia. Some of them don't believe it's even part of Europe. It's much closer to Canada than it is to anywhere in Europe. It is a four-hour flight from New York City to Rejkjavik and a six-hour flight from there to Copenhagen. Iceland is strangely mis-named, as it isn't truly covered with ice. True, there is a LOT of glacial ice there, but when compared to neighboring Greenland, it's quite green. So Greenland is covered with ice, and Iceland is quite green. Some of the world's most active volcanoes are on Iceland, which helps to power the nation's many thermal energy systems. Iceland is also the most sparsely populated of the five countries. Iceland is most likely home to the original "vikings" that were known to invade mainland Europe and cause so many problems. Of the five languages, Icelandic is the most true to its roots and many feel is unchanged from the days of the Viking conquest. It is most similar to Norwegian and Danish.

There aren't too many stereotypes about Iceland because it is reletively unknown by many people around the globe. The most common stereotypes are that all Icelanders are "oafs" that eat nothing but fish and sit around in thermal baths all day long. You probably won't find a people group more proud of their heritage than the Icelanders. Though they aren't well-known around the world, they have a beautiful nation that hasn't changed much for centuries - and they prefer to keep it that way.

This cache is a camo'd matchstick container. Nothing too out-of-the-ordinary here.
