Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the WI DNR newly acquired Picnic Point property, just north of Oshkosh. The land was formerly owned by the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. The state acquired this land for prairie and wildlife restoration and public recreation.

The property runs adjacent to Winnebago County owned Asylum Point Park (visit link) which is open from 4am to 11pm. There is no hourly restriction at the cache site.

Cache is a Lock & Lock container with small swag. Kids may take one swag item without making a trade. The cache is hidden about 200 yards from the parking lot gate, just off the trail.

There is no hunting permitted and large deer can sometimes be seen in the area. The trail continues to Lake Winnebago and Picnic Point. The cache should be findable in winter but the parking lot might not be plowed.

About the cache name- Two barking dogs and their owner were on the trail when I came out here to check for a cache location. Hmmm, dogs on the prairie must mean these are Wisconsin prairie dogs- or maybe not.

A geocache notification form (visit link) was submitted to Ellen Barth at the DNR headquarters in Oshkosh. Approval was granted to place this cache. DNR approval is preferred before placing geocaches on DNR controlled lands. Caches should not be placed until the form is submitted to the appropriate DNR land manager.

Congrats to f1rebirds, Rattledbox, Tjdancer and Dawnzie for the FTF! It took only 8 minutes from when the cache was activated to logging the FTF. Jimmy Johns could use you.
