Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are not real!  You must complete this research in order to find the cache.

We have met several friends through geocaching but the most influential have been a couple that we’ve previously known.  TheWheelers, close friends and neighbors, are the ones who’ve introduced us to geocaching.  I guess they are the direct cause of our “addiction.”  Besides being geocachers themselves, another passion of theirs is ghost hunting.  I suppose you can call them “paranormal researchers.”

This cache has been put together to honor and thank them for getting us involved in a hobby that we love so much.  We have had an exciting time and some “weird” experiences doing the research to put this together.  It is our hope that you can share in some of those experiences.  If this mystery cache is well received, it may become a “Paranormal Research” series with future mystery caches and other paranormal stories to be visited.

Congratulations to TheWheelers for completing the research first and being the FTF!

“Greetings, stranger.  You must be the one who’s going to help me with my research of the paranormal in Berks County, eh?  Hope you don’t get spooked easily…heh…you might see some things you never expected…or wanted to see.”

“My name is Professor Eidolon and I will be the one giving you your assignments.  I’m a man of knowledge and I expect no less than precision research from you…you understand?  Good.  Then let’s get started, shall we?”

“I will make your first assignment an easy one.  Sound fair?  Alright, then.  Read the case file below and follow the instructions to complete your research objective.  It’s an interesting story…I think you’ll like it.  That’s it for now…good luck and try not to get too scared!”

Case File:    1112-01

Title:    The Belle of Central Berks

Activity Report:

Over the years, there have been several sightings of a young girl who was murdered years ago.  Almost all accounts are the same.  Below are a few specific examples.

Late 19th Century – Approx.  10:00pm:
While traveling on a road between two villages in central Berks County, a horse buyer from Montgomery County and his hired hand witness a bright object skip across the road in front of them, leaping 20 feet in the air and over a tree before it disappeared.  Then, from across a meadow, it reappeared.  Again it shot 20 or 30 feet in the air before it whirled over the road another time, emanating a very strange and sad sort of singing.
As the singing became louder, the bright object slowly began to take shape into a young girl with long hair and dressed all in white.  She extended an arm, pointing to the black woods over a canal.  Then her words became clear as the terrified men heard her say, “They dragged me down…they dragged me down…my poor life was robbed…robbed when they murdered me.”  Suddenly, it shot into the air and circled the trees while moaning, “I come…I come…the hour is here.”  Just then, the apparition disappeared.
The two scared men slowly continued along the old road.  They had not gotten far before their horse gave a snort and reared.  Ahead, they saw a bluish white light roll around the top of fence on the left side.  The light came towards them at a good speed before it floated up in a spurt of wind and stretched into the form of a man with black hair and a white shirt.  As the “spirit” man came towards them they noticed other white lights circling around in a field.  They were the spirits of a man and a woman.  The woman started chasing the man before they both floated up over the ruins of a stone house in the field.  Then everything went black and the apparitions disappeared.

Late 19th Century – Approx. 2:00am:
Two young boys, out coon hunting at night, walked along a railroad near the discovery of the girl’s lifeless body several years prior.  When they got to a certain point, one of the boys saw a white figure walking close behind while the other boy noticed nothing.  Their dog also seemed to have noticed, for it stayed close to the boys and appeared frightened.
When they reached the point where the girl had been found, the apparition disappeared and the dog began to frisk and bark as if relieved.

2008 – Approx. 11:00pm:
After a full day of fishing, two young men began riding their bikes home along the railroad tracks.  As they rode along, they began hearing the beckoning of a woman.  The voice appeared to be saying “Come with me…Come with me.”  Soon after, they saw a bright light suspended about 5 feet above the tracks and about 75 to 100 yards away.  The ball started to move around and then whizzed into the woods and disappeared.
Just then, a bluish-green light burst from the woods and a girl with flowing hair and a medium length dress formed and stepped onto the tracks.  She motioned with her hands and beckoned them to follow, which they did for a bit.  After about a minute later, they stopped, mounted their bikes, and quickly rode off in the opposite direction, both terrified beyond belief.

Research Objective:

You are to solve the puzzle below and visit three different locations while gathering information to help you determine the name of the girl that haunts the country roads of central Berks County and piece together the story of her grizzly murder.

After solving this mystery, perhaps the greater mystery will be…while you are visiting this girl’s story, will she visit you?
