This cache is one in a series placed along the AuSable River Foot Trail in HPSP.
The AuSable River Foot Trail is a little known and seldom used trail located across the road from the Day Use area. Parking coords are provided below.
Since this is a foot trail, and bikes are not permitted, walking or xc skiing/snowshoeing will have to be your modes of travel along the approximately 3 mile trail. The trail is mostly flat although there is one hill section which can be bypassed if desired. The trail is NOT groomed for skiing and may be suitable for only the most experienced skiers.
We can't speak to the warm weather BUG situation having only visited this trail in the fall/winter, but it does cross the East Branch of the AuSable River twice and passes through lowland swampy areas, so the chances are quite good that you will encounter the blood sucking critters.
All of the caches in this series are winter friendly with the hides themselves not being all that difficult or out of the ordinary. The difficulty will be in traveling this trail on foot during the winter. During the rest of the year it is a fairly easy 3+ mile hike. with a .3 mile hill extension for those so inclined to hunt the cache along this section.
This series should be easier than its older "cousin" across the road along the ski trails. Enjoy your visit to this seldom used trail.
