Quella notte nevicava, al riparo nella propria gondola stava il

dottore personale del vescovo che ritornava a casa dopo aver prestato

le sue cure.

All'altezza della riva che va in calle del sottoportico Zurlin sente

una voce. E' una ragazza che grida aiuto avvolta nel suo scialle nero.

Sua madre sta male. Sorpreso che la ragazza avesse riconosciuto in lui

un dottore prese la sua borsa in cuoio e si affrettò a soccorrere la

madre della ragazza. Entrò in una delle porte della corte interna e

salì le scale. Là trovò la donna, che subito riconobbe come una sua ex

domestica. Aveva la polmonite.

Il dottore fece di tutto per quella donna complimentandosi di avere

una figlia così premurosa: se la domanda d'aiuto fosse stata invocata

anche la mattina dopo sarebbe stato troppo tardi. Ma in quel momento

la madre strabuzzò gli occhi: "Mia figlia? Ma è morta più di un mese

fa!". Il dottore non voleva crederci, si girò e non vide più la

ragazza. La madre, a prova che quello che diceva era vero, indicò al

dottore di aprire l'armadio di fronte al letto per mostrargli le sue

scarpe e il suo scialle. Il dottore riconobbe lo scialle nero che

aveva visto addosso alla ragazza con la differenza che era

perfettamente asciutto.

That nights was snowing. In the gondola's shelter was standing personal doctor of the bishop who was coming back home after giving some medication.

At the bank that is leading to the street of underpass Zurlin he heard someone's voice. It was a girl, wrapped in her black scarf, yelling and asking for a help. Her mother was dying. Surprised that the girl recognized himself as a doctor, he took his leather bag and quickly went to help to her mother. He entered in one of the door in the courtyard. There he found a woman who recognized immediately - she was his ex housemaid. Woman has got pneumonia.

Doctor gave her a medicine saying that her daughter is so thoughtful.. that if the request for help had been delayed, even the next morning, that would be too late for her .. But at that moment, mother's eyes widened: My daughter? She died more than one month ago. Doctor didn't want to believe in it, he turned around and didn't see the girl anymore. The mother, proving that what she said was true, pointed to the doctor to open the closet opposite the bed to show her shoes and her scarf. The doctor recognized the black scarf that had seen on the girl with a difference that was completely dry.
