This cach involves a short (but intense due to the steep gradient and rock climbing ) hike to the top of “Dragon’s Lair” which is an advance from what we dubbed “Dragon’s Crèche” further down . There is no marked path to the cach (although the terrain is quite accessible ) so you will have to use your own discretion on deciding what would be the best approach. Be sure to take enough water and snacks.
Some use the parking at the Palmiet and take the rock climbing trail up as there is a marked trail. If you follow the shorter (steeper) route from the listed parking coordinates, there is no marked path, but look for the "riverbed" that flows down the mountain roughly between Dragon's Creche & Dragon's Lair (probably closer to the latter's side). Once at the top, stick to walking on the rocks as the chances of encountering snakes in the Overberg area are always there. The unique rock formations surrounding the cache truly gives this site a mysterious, almost eerie ambiance - from there the name. You don't have to use much imagination to see the dragons sitting on the edges of the cliffs. Depending on how dehydrated you are when you get to the top you can actually see some curled up in places !
