Geocache Description:

This is a multistage night time puzzle cache. On a clear night looking out over the twinkly lights of the Greater Dublin area it's quite spectacular.

This cache should be an enjoyable night hike of about 1 hour. You will need good hiking boots and trousers as the trails can be very muddy with gorse bushes. Warm clothes, hat and gloves are essential as the summit can be cold at night. Obviously, a good torch, GPSr with spare batteries and your ready to go.

A few preliminaries: don't park on the main road. There is ample parking in the Summit Pub carpark or on Bailey Green Road at co-ords given. The cache can also be accessed by the 31 bus from Dublin. However, check the time of the last bus, before setting off!

Now to get going: Set your GPSr odometer to zero. At the given co-ords you will find a pillar. How many sides does it have =A (Check it twice). Take the path NW from here and join Windgate Rise and continue west. Count the street lights you pass until you get to the T junction =B.

Do you go left or right? Your destination is N53 22.3(A*2) W006 03.A(A-B)6 . Odometer reading approx. 360m.

At this point get your torch out and look for your first fire tack. Follow the trail, there are five fire tacks along the way. At the fifth firetack the trail opens to a wide track, follow it to the summit, <50m away.

At the summit (Odometer =880m) there is a square fence! At the northern corner, you will find C=? and at the western corner D=?. This is also where you'll get the best view of Dublin at night, (hopefully it's a clear night).

The next stage starts at N53 22.C(A-D)1 W006 04.(A-B)(C-D)1. Head back down the wide track/ road to the start of the next stage, (don't try and go directly towards this waypoint). A red arrow at the waypoint indicates the way, down the hill, (Odometer =1.25km). This stage is marked with seven firetacks, then the final cache is marked with two vertical fire tacks, (Odometer =1.85km).

A word about fire tack positions: Some tacks are positioned along the route, usually slightly to one side. If a fire tack is positioned at or just before a junction it will point you in the direction to go, alternatively the firetack will be visible from the junction along the correct trail. The firetacks have been positioned so that they are also visible on the return.

Good luck and enjoy the cache.

PS: On the inside of the cache box lid are the co-ordinates for a shortcut. Return to the given co-ords (Odometer=2.2km) and continue straight on. Once you get to the road, turn right and you're heading back towards the start, or go down the hill towards Howth village.
