Geocache Description:

The Canadian Base Network is designed to serve as the new ground segment of monumented survey control in the Canadian Spatial Reference System.

Geodetic Survey of CanadaTo log a find on this cache you must locate one of the several hundred CBN control survey monuments located across Canada as indicated on the reference maps available at the Geodetic Survey of Canada web site. Detailed monument location specification sheets can be downloaded for each monument which includes the monument's coordinates and instructions on how to locate it. Only monuments indicated on the above referenced map are eligible to be logged as a find on this cache.

The coordinates listed above are not one of the control monuments. They point to degree confluence unrelated to this cache.

It is our intention that all of the CBN monuments located across Canada be logged on this cache page.

You will need to provide the following information to successfully log a find for this cache. You must provide the monument station number, general location (city), and your recorded position error as displayed by your GPSr as compared to those of the published position. This will be a very good test of your GPS receivers instantaneous accuracy at a known point.

You must also upload a photo of the monument with your GPSr clearly visible. The photo must show enough of the surrounding area to verify the location. You may also wish to include yourself or your cache team in the photo(s).

We would like to have as many different CBN monuments found and logged as possible. This will be a joint effort by cachers from all across the country.

NOTE: The official recorded position on the monument reports are given in DDD MM SS.ssss. That approximately equals 3 millimeter precision. Also, note that the datum may be specified as NAD83, which for these purposes, equals WGS84.
