Third Annual Camp Adair Meet and Teach!
It’s time for the third annual “Camp Adair Meet & Teach”. Again it will be at the Department of Fish & Wildlife gazebo, located behind the field office. It will be held on the Saturday before Mothers day, May 11th, with the meeting starting at noon. You are welcome to bring along your lunch to eat. Of course you can start caching at dawn if you want. Just stop by the gazebo around noon to sign in and meet the other cachers. Please tell any new cachers you know that there will be others there to help them learn the ropes if they want it.
Parking is available at N44*41.939 W123*12.838, N44*41.982 W123*12.411 or any other spot that is safely off the road. Walk through the man gates to the north and turn on the first cross street to proceed to the gazebo.
The F & W requires a PARKING PERMIT to park in the area. These can be bought any place that sells hunting licenses. A one day permit is $7 or an annual goes for $22. I understand that a parking ticket will cost you around $110.00! This money is used to help maintain the game refuges, and fund their projects. Upcoming projects at E. E. Wilson include blackberry and poison oak removal, and restoration to a “prairie” environment.
Some ideas include marking trails and locations for walking tours that identify some of the historic sites. One thing the F & W is asking us to do, is to get PERMISSION TO PLACE CACHES, just as we have to in McDonald forest. Think of that parking fee as 1 ticket to the movies, or an espresso. If you need to cut corners this time, find someone to carpool with, but please come. Hopefully, each year the area will be better maintained, and with some new features. Those of you who have found “Stars at Night” will have to admit that a better trail into that area would be nicer.
Looking forward to another fine group to “meet”, and hopefully, we will get to “teach” some new cachers again this year. Please remember that this will be ground nesting time for the birds, so all DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES. Also, this is an ideal location for those who would like to cache by bicycle. Most caches are close to the old paved streets.
