As you approach the end of your hike on the Barrens Nature Trail, pause to read the interpretive signs describing what the Barrens of yesteryear were like. Compare them to what you see today as the park attempts to restore this area.
The sandy soil of this area could be a good spot to see another of Ranger Rick's friends. This friend is a member of the weasel family and is has a flat short body with a long pointed nose. He also has strong sharp claws that are used for digging burrows or digging his prey out of the ground. This animal feeds on gophers, ground squirrels, rats, and mice. He is also well known for being the state animal of Wisconsin and the mascot for the University of Wisconsin known as Bucky. When you find the cache read the clue for this animal and stamp his footprint on your passport.
Passports are available at the office or some extras have been placed inside each cache.

This cache is located in an area designated as a State Natural Area with special permission from Thomas Meyer, Conservation Biologist with the State Natural Areas Program of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Heather Wolf, property manager at Buckhorn State park. Please stay on the designated trails, all caches are located within 20 feet of the trail. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. A current Wisconsin State Parks sticker is required to park a vehicle in any part of the park at any time of year.
