Geocache Description:

Where eagles fly, fish, hang out. Where bald eagles winter.

We noticed last fall that there are several bald eagles, mature and immature, that hang out along the river. We have spent many enjoyable hours watching them. This is one area you can watch the eagles too. Bring binoculars.

The bald eagle in Arizona winters from mid October to around mid March. We have observed them in this area fishing (when the water level is higher), perching on the lone dead tree, perching and often eating their catch on the light poles along the freeway. (You can also see them on those lightpoles when driving along the 202 between McClintock and Scottsdale Roads.)

The area where the cache is located is in a public walkway/trail. It does not disturb the eagles. If the freeway traffic, the overhead planes, the parking lot near this cache and the people using the trail itself doesnt bother the eagles, then a geocacher will not either. This area also has many shore birds such as ospreys, great blue herons, egrets, brown pelicans, cormorants and ducks. While the walkway is public, the area behind the fence (the river) is posted no trespassing.

To make this easy, the cache is a painted pill vial placed at the base of the tilted white metal post and hidden by a couple of small rocks. Enjoy the views!

(We obtained the coordinates without having our newer more reliable gps unit. Please let me know if the coordinates need adjusting.)
