Geocache Description:

This will be the third running of the Summer Vacation Travel Racer Competition.

This will be the first year without any of the founding members participating. FugeFinders (the two time defending champions) have announce their retirement from this event in order to give all of you, hopefully, a great event and to facilitate adventures to be remembered! ImLuckiest and TheMcMorrows have agreed to what we are going to call the "Founders' Draft" in order to determine what color tags people will be receiving at the event. There may or may not be a side wager involved with that. So who else will participate this year?

We ask is that we get all entries confirmed by April 27th so we can get all the TBs here in time for the event.

So here are the details about the event itself: (Subject to change barring unforeseen circumstances)

Where: Yukon Grill
When: May 11th @ 6:00 PM
Who: Any and all are welcome!
Participation in the race is not required to attend, and attending the event is not required to participate in the race.
Food: It's not a pizza place!

So here is a little history about the race. In the summer of 2010, TheMcMorrows, ImLuckiest and FugeFinders had a little bet. We bet to see who could log the most miles from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The playing field was only the limit of your wallet. The idea is that we had our assigned TB "Visit" each cache that we found to accrue miles. At the end of the summer, the losing team would treat the winning team to dinner. (We are still waiting for our dinner. )

We learned some things from that little idea, and have made a few tweeks to make the race a little more fair.

Here are the rules:
Rules in italics are new this year.

1) The race runs from Saturday May 25th until Monday September 2nd.

2) The travel racer may be issued to a team. Team members must be identified prior to the start of the race.
    a) For a team member to log the racer, they must be in possession of the racer!

3) Racers may only be logged in physical caches.
    a) Earthcaches, Virtuals, Locationless, and Webcams are not allowed.
    b) Events of any type are allowed because you must sign a log to claim the event in most cases.
    c) Mystery caches are allowed, but keep in mind it may skew your mileage.

4) Only caches the team member in possession of the racer hasn't found before may be logged.

5) Caches owned by the team member in possession of the racer may NOT be logged.

6) Only caches in the state of WA are allowed. (This was a lesson learned from the first race, not everyone has the availability to travel all over the country.)

7) The item attached to the TB must be some mode of transportation. It must have wheels, wings, or have the ability to float. (Interpret that how you will. )

8) Pictures are encouraged, but not required! Forcing people to provide cache spoilers isn't fair to other cachers or the cache owners.

9) The TBs will be assigned to the teams, but they will remain under our ownership until after the race.
    a) Teams may "grab" their trackables at the event, but are not allowed to dip them in any caches until the race officially starts.
    b) When the race is over, we will "grab" them and "place" them at the finish line, virtually, for final numbers. This is also a good reason to be timely in your logging of your caches.
    c) The start line for those in attendance will be the event. For those who can't attend, it will be the closest cache to the main team member's house, found or not, owned or not.

10) Have fun! This is a friendly competition...no need for name calling, but friendly banter is perfectly fine!

Junior Division rules are the same as the Main Event rules.
(It is recommended, but not required, that multiple child families team their kids up. Most families cache as a group, and if they don't, the kids can swap the racer around to log extra miles!)

Requirements to enter are as follows:

1) Participants must be between the ages of 6 and 15. (If you can drive, you can play with the adults!)

2) Any geo-kids are eligible, not just ones with Geocaching.com accounts. (All non-account holders' trackables will be entrusted to their parents' account.)

(Mrs. Commissioner has a good idea for the kids trackables that aren't our standard Travel Racer tags!)

As stated above, attending the event is not a requirement, but it will be where the TBs are distributed so if you can't make the event we can make other arrangements to get you your TB.

So, what's in it for you? There will be some rewards at the end of the race. The winning team, the team with the longest single logged distance, and the team with the longest distance day will receive awards to be determined.

If we think of anything else, it will be posted here. As of now the start line will be the event and the finish line will be the "Results/Awards" event after the race is over.
