The house on Kirochnaya 24 was built in 1905 by architect B. Girshovich for J. Buck, a railway engineer, also known as the founder of a major political newspaper "Speech“ that presented the ideas of constitutional democracy.
The facade of this building is made in a modern style with elements of rococo. Its main feature - galleries, located on the 2nd and 4th floors, connecting the two parts of the building.

The flats in this house were not supposed for ordinary people: the building had a rich main entrance with marble staircase and stained-glass windows, huge apartments with 10-15 rooms.
In Soviet times the luxury apartments became communal (shared) flats and remain so to this day – several families that own 1-2 rooms and use kitchen, bathroom and toilette together with their neighbors.
