Geocache Description:

This is my second muni-golf inspired cache ( see The Duffer, GC4AG8W). Alas, the caddy is sadly missing form the municipal golf experience and relegated to only the lofty and super-expensive private golf clubs. But this cache is a quick P&G and open to all....no membership requirements. Go find it!!

The records are not certain, but historians believe that Mary, Queen of Scots, came up with the term "caddie" in the late 16th century. Mary grew up in France where military cadets carried golf clubs for royalty. It is possible that Mary brought the custom to Scotland, where the term evolved into the word "caddie."
Alternatively, the word "caddie" may have originated from the Malay word 'kati'. Kati is a measure for tea leaves and is printed on boxes used to carry and collect the tea leaves, hence its use in terms reflecting carrying and collecting.
Also, the word may have originated from the Welsh term "cad", which is a "battle", "contest", or "test", such as the Cad Goddeau.

Here are some interesting exchanges between golfers and caddies....

Golfer: "Well, I have never played this badly before!"
Caddy: "I didn't realize you had played before, Sir."

Jimmy believed himself a superior caddie. He certainly had a superior attitude towards the man whose clubs he carried. Why
only last month he had caddied for Lee Trevino, and now each time his client asked for a 5-wood, the boy would sneer,
"Lee Trevino used a 4-iron from here." And so it continued all the way around. The caddie recommended the clubs Trevino
would have used and the golfer's game went rapidly from bad to worse.
Finally, at the eighteenth, there was a huge lake to cross.
"OK, smart ass," said the golfer, "what would Trevino suggest here?"
"I think if Lee had come this far with you, he'd say, `Use an old ball."'
