Geocache Description:

In the Portal area of the Coronado National Forest.

Crystal Cave Overlook is our second Chiricahua Mountain area cache. It's also a replacement for a cache stolen at Crystal Cave last year. Take the time to cross the creek bed and look for interesting rocks. Note that Crystal Cave is closed to the public. Mother Nature vaporized the cache between 4/12/2011 and 2/25/2012. WOW! New amo can replacement 4/28/2012. Includes a Maine Moose, Sheep Bell, Geocaching sticker, patch and pin, bracelets, TY cat, pens and pencils, key chains and a toy fire pumper. (Hope this protects it in the future!) Park at waypoint N 31° 52.979' W 109° 12.903' on Forest Road 42A and take a gentle hike to waypoint N 31° 53.034' W 109° 13.071'. Then climb a very steep trail over the lava dike. Stay on the ridge and follow the game trail to the cache. Crystal Cave is to the north on the opposite ridge. Alternative route: walk from parking to the green cabin, turn right up the ridge at N 31 52.950 W 109 12.968.
