Geocache Description:

This is an old school letterbox-hybrid.  You will be given starting coordinates, then you have to follow the directions on this page to find the final.

I had to make slight changes to the directions on 8-19-13 due to new trails in the area which could cause some confusion. If you printed out the old instructions you might want to get the new ones.

After you find this cache be sure to hide it in the same way as you found it.  This is close to a trail, and muggles could be a problem.

Since this is a letterbox-hybrid there is a stamp and an ink pad in the container.  IT IS NOT SWAG.  PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE CONTAINER.

If you collect letterbox stamps go ahead and stamp your book.  The stamp is suppose to be an iguana, thus the cache name.  The log book is large enough for you to stamp it with your stamp if you have one.

The coordinates above are for parking.  Your starting point for your search is N 42 07.583  W 079 55.779.  This coordinate is shown below.  Go to this point and begin to follow the directions shown here:

  • From the trailhead start to walk away from the parking area.
  • In about 4 steps, take the trail off to your left.
  • After just a few steps, take a left onto the smaller trail.
  • You will follow this trail for quite a ways.  Just continue to follow this trail.
  • At approximately N 42 07.552 W 079 55.752 you will run into a much larger trail. Continue on the smaller one going down the hill
  • After a while it will start down hill.  It becomes somewhat steep and rocky.  CAUTION: it can be slippery if it is wet, so watch your footing.
  • At the bottom of the hill you will see 6-mile creek in front of you.  DO NOT continue toward the creek,  Turn right, and continue down an old ATV trail to the creek.
  • At this point you will see a downed tree blocking your path, and across the creek you will see an even bigger downed tree.
  • You will have to cross the creek, but first, scan the bank on the other side for an obvious trail up into the woods.  That is your target destination for continuing the hike.
  • Cross the creek.
  • Make your way to the trail into the woods, and head up the hill.
  • About 75' up the trail it forks.  Take the left fork.  This will be the steeper, rockier trail.  CAUTION:  it can be slippery if it is wet, so watch your footing.
  • Near the top of this trail you will see another fork.  This time take the trail to the right.
  • You want to mark the coordinates for the location of the fork, and load that waypoint on your GPS.
  • Follow the trail for about .11-.12 miles.  You can check your GPS for the distance.
  • At about the .12 mile mark the trail begins a big sweeping turn to the left.  You want to stop before the turn.
  • Standing on the trail look to your right.  Scan the woods for a tall (20-30') dead tree stump with no branches on it.  It is about 45' off the trail.
  • Walk toward the dead tree.
  • Continue past the tree about 6', and you will see a smaller trail running parallel to the main trail.  There should be a large rock just across the trail. Turn right on that trail.
  • Follow this smaller trail for about 320'.  On your left you should see a big, gnarly looking tree about 10' off the trail.
  • Walk over to the tree, and look down the slope a little toward the right. You should see another big tree about 40' away.
  • Walk down and look behind that tree.

The location is about .18 miles from parking as the crow flies, but you will take a roundabout route in.  The total trip is a little short of a half mile one way.

Since this is an old school cache the final coordinates are not shown.  If you carefully follow the directions above you should be able to find the cache with no problem.  The final is a 50 cal ammo can hidden in a typical fashion - nothing devious.  Just be sure that it remains well hidden or it could disappear.

Go get it, and good luck!!!
