Geocache Description:

With the movie 'Pacific Rim' coming out in 2013, the word 'Kaiju' has hit the mainstream.  Kaiju means 'strange beast' or more commonly 'giant monster'.  This is a series dedicated to Kaiju - the beginning SWAG are custom made double-sided Kaiju trading cards!

"Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot" was a 26 episode TV series that came out in 1967.  In it, Johnny Sokko, a 10 year old boy, gains control of 'Giant Robot' and each episode they fight some new and strange Kaiju.

Along the lines of the Ultraman TV series, Giant Robot was cool for many reasons.  The robot itself had a cool look especially with it's sphinx-shaped head.  Also cool was that a boy was controlling it (who HASN'T dreamed of having your own Giant Robot at your beck-and-call?!?)  Johnny would control Giant Robot by speaking commands into his super spy watch..."Giant Robot - Attack!"  "Giant Robot - Use the eye laser!"  "Giant Robot - Megaton Punch!"  This TV series was very much a product of its time, with James Bond being a heavy influence.  It's gotten some flack for the level of violence with kids present - for instance in one episode a little girl is handed a sniper rifle and calmly shoots an alien in his all-powerful eye.  (Done cheesy and not gory, but the idea of kids and guns...wouldn't go over today.)

The best part about Giant Robot is the enemies he would fight.  They had some cool enemies and some "huh?" enemies.  Among those were:

Nucleon - A giant ball.
Iron Claw - A giant metallic hand...that could fly.
Iron Jawbone - A giant metallic mouth...that could fly...and separate so to clamp down on things.

But the craziest, cheesiest, goofiest, dumbest, absolutely greatest enemy of them all:
Opticon - A giant flying eyeball (complete with eyelid!)

I love Giant Robot - brings back alot of good memories for me.  If you haven't seen it, go check it out on DVD or find clips online.  Giant Robot - A worthy addition to the Kaiju Cache series!!!
