Geocache Description:

Welcome to our First Annual Geocaching Trail - The Villages of Berkeley County, sponsored by the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

We invite you to see some of Wild and Wonderful West Virginia as you travel the path that 16 year old George Washington took when he surveyed the area or follow the same road the Confederates took after their retreat from Gettysburg. Enjoy the back roads that follow the same paths the Indians used for hunting or see the areas where locals fought the Tories during the Revolution. Take a minute to read the history of each village on the cache pages.

This EVENT will kickoff at The Roundhouse at 100 E Liberty Street, Martinsburg, WV. The event will start at 1:00 pm and will end at 2 pm. There will be time for visiting, bug trading, photos and more. Around 1:30 the cache sites can be loaded (paper coordinates will be available in case we have a technical meltdown!). At 1:50 door prizes will be announced. There is parking on site. There is one portapotty on site. If you are a railroad or architecture buff, feel free to come a little early for tours of the Roundhouse.

This trail is comprised of 14 cache sites of which you have to find 12; the site at the Visitors Center (CVB) is mandatory. Each site has a code word that you have to bring back on either the geocaching rack card available for the Trail or on a piece of paper. Rack cards can be picked up at the I-81 rest stops or at the Visitors Center downtown. Bring your own pen. Permission has been granted for all sites. Some sites contain SWAG.

Once these cards are turned in to the trail sponsor, the CVB, and verified, and you fill out a very short information card, you will receive a trackable geocoin (available to the first 300 finders-one per team).  The redemption address is 115 N. Queen Street, Downtown Martinsburg, WV. The center is open from 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday and 9 to 4 Saturday and Sunday.

Make a weekend of it! While you are in Berkeley County make sure you look for caches placed by WVTim, or the Take Me Home Country Roads GeoArt cache by GR8Caches, or the multi-caches placed by The Wandering Panhandlers. Do the sites that are on the WV Civil War Geo Trail (kicking off on 8/10) while you are here, we are in Region 3! We  have enough to keep you busy for days!

Many Thanks to WVTim, GR8Caches and The Wandering Panhandlers for their guidance, support, cache page design and cache placement for the Villages of Berkeley County Trail. We hope you enjoy yourself!
