A former Governor of Massachusetts and US Congressman, Elbridge Gerry was VP under President James Madison. My guess is that he was the only VP named Elbridge. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. As Governor of Massachusetts, Gerry became known for adjusting electoral districts for political gain....hence, the term "gerrymandering."
