WHAT IS HAPPENING?
At this time we are in the planing stages. If you are coming to the park early, bring some rolls or donuts to share - we will have the coffee on! At 1:00pm we'll have a good old Minnesota POTLUCK. Hot dogs, lemonade and accoutrements will be provided. We are setting up many family friendly caches and a few river caches to paddle to. William O'Brien has made 100 pathtags that you can earn by finding temporary caches! day Games of skill and not so skillful are planned. The event is open to everyone. The park has 18 GPS units that can be borrowed free! With lots of experienced cachers to help you out!
The Voyager encampment will be there again this year. Voyageurs were the 'truck drivers' of the fur trade era. They would travel the rivers and lakes hauling beaver, mink, muskrat and other animal furs. These furs would be packaged in 90-pound packs that they hauled over long portages. Eventually, these furs would end up as top hats and coats to the elite in Europe. These voyageurs were a hearty bunch with a unique lifestyle which only they could call their own. Come down to the picnic grounds and view the camp and ask them questions as the Neebing Brigade and the La Compagnie Brigade re-enact the 1700's and make their home at the park for the weekend. Take a step back in history and, through activities and special programs, learn the life of the Voyageur!
