Welcome to Trail River Campground, one of the finest facilities of this sort operated by the US Forest Service on Chugach National Forest. This campground is open from late May through Sept 2, 2013 for camping and day use activities (May 22, 2014 through Sept 1, 2014), but you may park outside the gate during other times of the year and hike or cross country ski on the trails and roadways throughout the area beyond the gate. Nordic ski trails are set and maintained during snow season for visitors' use. At the time this cache was published there were three other caches (located along the Kenai Lake shoreline) accessed through this campground.

This black megabison is located about six feet off the ground between the campground access road and Trail River. Don't underestimate this river's strength - the current is very strong and it's not suitable for water play by children or adults at this location. Enjoy and absorb the spruce forest and its undergrowth - tread lightly and avoid stepping on plants here.

A faint trail makes its way from the road to the river right past the cache. Note - the cache is on the opposite side of the road from the campground sign, and there's a wide spot in the road convenient for vehicles to pull well over and avoid blocking the access road. Enjoy your visit to this gem of a USFS facility!
