Hubert H.Humphrey, Jr., served as a US Senator and held a leadership position in the Senate prior to becoming Vice-President under President Johnson. He became VP after Lyndon Johnson ascended to the presidency following Kennedy's death. Humphrey was loyal to President Johnson's policies and was criticized by former supporters for not speaking out against the Vietnam War during this time.
