Geocache Description:

Geocaching at the Big MOE!

Each year for 17 years the FAWNS Society has hosted the Massachusetts Outdoor Expo at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Stubridge, MA. In 2009, we (MassGeocachers.org) approached the organizers of this event about representing Geocaching at their expo. They didn’t know much about Geocaching, but they agreed. We had such a great turnout and reception, we were invited back! In 2010 it went very well again and we will be perpetually on the roster of Activity Stations.

For Geocaching Beginners: To get the idea without using a GPS receiver, we have an area by a very large pond where several beginner caches are hidden. You start at our tables and work your way along the pond where you'll find clues near "ground zero" (approximately 30 feet from the geocache) on bright colored ribbons. Follow these hints to find each cache and reveal a number. When you have all of the numbers from each cache, bring them to the tables for some swag (toys and goodies)!

While you're at the tables you can learn from experienced Geocachers how to use a GPS receiver, where you can find Geocaches near your home and which are the best. We will have experienced Geocachers staffing the table at all times to give you lots of great information and answer all of your questions!

If available, we can have an experienced Geocacher take a beginner to the caches hidden using a GPS receiver. This will help beginners see exactly how Geocaching is done.

For Experienced Geocachers: We will have several temporary caches hidden throughout the sprawling grounds. We will have sheets with the coordinates on them. These will be filled with lots of swag for the kids. This is one time when it's okay to take and not leave anything!

It would be greatly appreciated if you could stop by the tables for a bit to help educate the Geocaching Beginners. This is a great opportunity to grow the sport/hobby/addiction we all love! Keep in mind, many visitors will be coming from the Expo and not necessarily this web site. They will be completely new to Geocaching.

This is a 100% free event with plenty of free parking. Maps of the grounds are available and it is truly fun for all ages. It is a rain or shine event! Here is the official Big MOE flyer.
