Kirkenes is the end station of Hurtigruten. Between Bergen, where Hurtigruten starts, and Kirkenes, the distanse around the coast is 2400 km. Since 1893 Hurtigruten has travelled between south west and north east. The first ship was named DS Vesteraalen. The first period the end station was Hammerfest. From 1908 Kirkenes became the end station.
There are now 11 ships, and every day one ship starts from Bergen, going to Kirkenes and back. The speed of the ship is 15 knots.
