Geocache Description:

Near the cache site you find one of Seychelles national monuments: The Cinnamon Distillery of Parslin.

Cinnamon was introduced in Seychelles in 1772 by Pierre Poivre, a French naturalist and administrator of Mauritius and Reunion. He did this for competing with the monopoly the Dutch had on spices. Cinnamon was an important commodity in the old economy of Praslin prior to the inauguration of the Seychelles International Airport in 1971. With the little tourists visiting Praslin, most people of the time earned their livelihood by working in the coconut or cinnamon plantations. (source)

Nowadays, cinnamon trees have become part of the natural scrubland and grow wild on many of the islands. It can also be found at the distillery. It is easy to recognize, if you know what to look for. Notice how the leaf vein runs almost parallel with the centre vein in the picture below. This picture was taken at the distillery. Rubbing the bark removes all doubt of the kind of plant.

How to find the cache: The cache is not at the actually monument but some meters to the right behind it. Slightly uphill under a small rock in front of the stone wall. Please cover it well. The cache is a clear Lock&Lock box with a black notebook and a pencil.

A note on cache maintenance: aml will help with maintenance.
