Geocache Description:

"Hands Four"

Every once and awhile I make it over to this neat place and since my opportunity to hold events towards eastern Virginia is rare, I figured why not combine two hobbies for once and add in a short meet-and-greet before I continue with the reason for my roadtrip — to enjoy some untamed vegetables.

Glen Echo Park, the venue, has a fascinating history. Begun in 1891 initially as a Chautauqua retreat, it operated as a popular amusement park for many years in the early 1900's, before eventually being taken over by the National Park Service in 1971 and then becoming a public park. Many of the old structures of the past including the Spanish Ballroom, Arcade and Bumper Car Pavilion have been saved and now are venues for the various art and music programs and events that are held frequently at Glen Echo. In fact, it is prior to one such event that this meet-and-greet is scheduled.

Who:
You! Whether you have one find or thousands, are local or are from further away, everyone is welcome!

When:
Friday, September 27, 2012 from 7:00 - 7:30 PM.

Where:
Glen Echo Park
7300 MacArthur Boulevard, Glen Echo, MD

Why:
To socialize, visit with old and new geofriends, and for those who choose to stick around, enjoy listening to some great, live music.

The plan is to meet at the posted coordinates, which are right outside of Glen Echo's Spanish Ballroom, for a short, informal meet-and-greet. There is a cafe right next door for anyone looking for something to eat and/or drink, or you can feel free to bring a snack of your own. We'll socialize, talk caching, and visit until 7:30 PM, and then all present are then invited, if they so choose, to proceed inside the Spanish Ballroom to enjoy Wild Asparagus, who will be playing for Glen Echo's Friday Night Contra Dance.

For the after portion: there is no charge to sit outside the dance area and listen, but if you find yourself wanting to join the dance (which is quite fun!) there is a small entrance charge for that. And wondering: what is contra dance? Well, the best way to answer that is: come, see and try it out. It's fun and easy. In fact, many say, if you can walk, you can contra dance. Glen Echo holds a free lesson prior to the dance's start, it's simple to learn, and mistakes are easily forgiven. A good time with good music and fun should be guaranteed. :)
