Geocache Description:

LET'S GO PADDLING AT NIGHT!
A CITO Event
(4th Annual CLAPS Nighttime Paddle Event!)
Saturday, December 14th - 5:30 p.m.
Launch at 6:00 p.m. sharp!

It's the holidays. It’s time to get the lights out and deck your kayak or canoe out - holiday style. Yep. Light it up. Decorate it. Then add some more lights. Go Clark Griswold on it. Make sure those lights are twinkling, Clark! Then bring it to the CLAPS Holiday Lights Nighttime Paddle Event!

Join us for an evening of paddling as the near-full moon makes the night sky come alive and our boats make the bayou come alive. A terrific way to force yourself into the holiday spirit is to join us on this night paddle! We promise a festive time with the fun only a geocaching paddle event with boats lit up could bring!

You can only log this event by signing the special logbook we will have at GZ. Logs by attendees who have not signed the logbook will be deleted. We have something special for all official attendees which will be handed out as the log is signed. Festive lights and decorations are highly encouraged, and there will also be a small (but nice) prize or two for the kayaks or canoes voted most festive. So, deck it out and go over the top!

Be sure to bring a flashlight, headlamp, or both! Got something bigger? Bring it!

We will launch from the Bay Area Park boat launch and participants will paddle around on the bayou. We will meet at Bay Area Park at the boat launch area starting around 5:30 p.m. Yes -- 5:30 p.m. Remember, it starts getting pretty dark by this time. (On December 14th, sunset is at 5:24 and civil twilight ends at 5:43).

We will launch at 6:00 p.m. sharp, hitting the water under a nearly full moon! I've consulted the moon Gods and they promise it will be UP this time while we're paddling! If you're renting from a local rental place, please be sure to get to the rental meet up spot early enough to do necessary paperwork, etc. so you are at the event and can launch on time.

NOTE: Bay Area Park closes at 10:00 p.m. Clear Lake Park closes at 10:00 p.m. The boat launch near Clear Lake Park closes at 10:00 p.m. Thus, you had better be back (or get to wherever you're going) in time to load yourself, you gear, and get out before you're locked in and/or car gets towed!

We will decide where we want to paddle once everyone is there, after assessing tide levels. But in any event, we will return to Bay Area Park when we are done. We expect that there will be plenty excitement and places to explore in the nighttime (it all looks different in the dark) -- all while ensuring we make a timely return before any deadline(s). Those of you who wish to break off at some point are welcome to do so -- but then you are on your own.
