The beach is backed by now vegetated transgressive dunes extending between 300 and 400 m inland, then the 30 ha Calverts Lagoon, a landlocked dry lake. There is vehicle access off the South Arm Road through the dunes to the beach. It is exposed to moderate to occasionally high waves and usually has ten or more rips along the beach, together with rips against either headland. It commences on the western side of a small headland and trends west-southwest for 2.3 km to the sedimentary rocks of 30 m high Goat Bluff
This area can become very busy when there is a good swell and somehow the ocal surfies seem to know and flock here from all over. I have found it is a great spot to visit if you wish to view an auroa as it has uninterupted views to the South with little or no light polution. You will find yourself looking out onto Storm Bay and directly out to the Tasman Sea.
