Sureda renova, un segle més tard, la seva relació amb el sol i el temps, fruit de la fusió entre matemàtica i art.
Gràcies a un gnòmon, de dotze metres d’alt, d’un color vermell viu que s’alça per damunt les teulades del poble, al centre de la plaça Padre Himalaya i d’un forat d’acer inoxidable, de cinc centímetres de diàmetre, en forma de con i a set metres d’altura, que permet concentrar la llum del sol projectada a un mur blanc amb les hores gravades, podem llegir l’hora solar amb molta precisió. Sens dubte, aquest rellotge de sol monumental, és l’emblema del poble.
Twelve feet tall, the exact time to the second, the Sureda sundial will certainly become the emblem of the village.
The Sundial is therefore the result of mathematical calculations as well as the artist´s reflection. It took seven years since the first idea was drafted on paper until its full completion.
A bright red gnomon stands out like a lighthouse on the roofs of the village, in the center of the Padre Himalaya square. A two inches hole in diameter, drilled in a steel cone, seven feet high, concentrates the sunlight which is projected on the white wall. The light spot indicates the time thanks to the marks installed on the wall. Unlike most of sundials which use the shadow of the style or gnomon, to point the time, in this case the old technique called the "negative sundial" is used. The choice of materials, colors and refined aesthetics make this work a real sculpture. Its high-tech, design and accuracy makes it a true instrument of measurement.
