This Geocache will be in place between the Summer Solstice on June 21 and the end of summer on September 22. You can celebrate the beginning of summer by hunting for the Geocache. This is our 35th seasonal cache.
The cache is located at the edge of woods about ten feet from a field. The Summer Solstice is at is at 6:51 AM (ET) on Saturday, June 21 this year. In the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year when the Sun is farthest north. In the southern hemisphere, winter and summer solstices are exchanged. The summer solstice marks the first day of the season of summer. The declination of the Sun on the (northern) summer solstice is known as the tropic of cancer (23° 27'). The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, respectively, in the sense that the length of time elapsed between sunrise and sunset on this day is a maximum for the year. The time of sunrise will be 5:57 a.m. EDT and sunset will be 9:12 p.m. EDT. 15 hours and 15 minutes of sunlight. Of course,daylight saving time means that the second Sunday in March has 23 hours and the first Sunday in November has 25 hours, but these human meddlings with the calendar and do not correspond to the actual number of daylight hours.
This cache is located within Willow Metropark, a part of the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority park system. A Metropark Vehicle Entry Permit is required: Annual Permit $30. Senior Permit $20. Daily Permit $7.
