Jimtown, (also known as Montrose, Crockerville and Crocker Hollow) was a small community in the southwestern part of the Montrose township (section 30) which was developed around the general store erected in the mid 1850s by Sam Sharman. Named after Jim Wilson, who operated the neighboring blacksmith shop, the little hamlet also had a lodge hall and a short distance west, a school, Methodist church and cemetery. The Jimtown store which was also the Montrose post office from 1878 to 1900, was successively owned by Henry Ellis, Denton Smith, and later his son, who was locally known as “Bobby Dent”. The “Crocker” reference to this section was based on the four Crocker families residing in the immediate area.
The last remaining remnants of Jimtown are the Jimtown Store (For more information on the Jimtown Store, see cache “Jimtown Store” GC48ACJ.), and the Montrose Pioneer Cemetery.
